The inexorable rise of the internet and mobile phones is fundamentally changing the horizons for communication and the implications of this are only beginning to emerge. Already, however, movements to restrict and manipulate the environment are growing. Public interest advocates must act now to understand the landscape so that they can protect and harness the colossal opportunities we have for progressing humanity. A new Frontier, An Old Landscape examines the impact that the rise of digital communications is having on the media, and on human rights activism. The report goes on to explore the main policy issues which must be addressed at the national and international levels to shape an enabling environment.
